Faculty members can be appointed to administrative positions, typically associated with a percent effort on a particular project or role. Faculty status is maintained during the appointment to an administrative position within the university. All administrative appointments of faculty members must be routed through the process below.
Submit complete administrative appointment/reappointment/modified appointment requests for VPFA approval through the “Request for VPFA Review and Approval” workflow in Adobe Sign PRIOR to the effective date of the appointment. For detailed instructions, please refer to the Instructions for Requesting VPFA Electronic Signature & Approval Using Adobe Sign.
Include in the request the following documentation:
- Administrative Appointment/Reappointment/Modified Request Memorandum (use the required template: New or Modified Administrative Appointment Request Template)
- Please note that for department head or interim department head appointment or reappointment requests, a signature line for the Provost and Executive Vice President must be included as the final approver on the request memorandum.
2. Current CV
3. Draft Offer Letter
- Please note, this letter should specify how evaluations (annual, tenure/promotion, post tenure) will be handled during the administrative appointment period.
4. For department head appointment or reappointment requests
- As outlined in University SAP 12.99.99.M0.03, Faculty Participation in the Selection, Evaluation, and Retention of Department Heads, faculty input will be sought—as described in Appendix A of this SAP—following interviews with all department head candidates for appointment, as well as during the evaluation and retention reviews of current department heads. Accordingly, for department head appointment or reappointment requests, please include a summary of the faculty survey results. This summary may be incorporated into Section #2, “Justification,” of the request memorandum and/or provided as a separate attachment.
