As noted in section 4.6 of the Texas A&M University Guidelines to Faculty Titles, Adjunct [Faculty Title other than Professor of Law] indicates a non-paid, non-tenure accruing appointment that involves a specific set of expectations and duties agreed upon between the faculty member and the unit, with approval from the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (VPFA). These appointments are limited to a maximum of a three-year appointment but can be renewed through the same process. Texas A&M University faculty and staff members are not eligible to hold a non-paid Adjunct Faculty Appointment.

Submit complete Adjunct Faculty appointment or reappointment requests for VPFA approval through the “Request for VPFA Review and Approval” workflow in Adobe Sign PRIOR to the effective date of the appointment. Include in the request the following documentation:

  1. A memorandum routed from Department Head, through the College/School Dean, to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs detailing:
    • Requesting college/school
    • Requesting department
    • Name of individual and their current affiliation
    • Start and end dates (appointment may not exceed 3-years)
    • Adjunct faculty title
    • Confirmation that it is a non-paid appointment
    • Description of duties and expectations
  2. A signed Appointment or Reappointment Letter that contains the following language:

On behalf of the Department of [Department], [College/School] at Texas A&M University, we are pleased to offer you [an appointment or a reappointment] as an Adjunct [faculty title]. This courtesy title and appointment are for the period [start date] through [end date]. There are neither salary nor benefits associated with this appointment. The appointment neither accrues tenure credit nor implies a promise of future employment. [College/School/Department] voting rights are not extended with this appointment. Either you or the University may choose to end this relationship at any time and for any reason, with or without notice. Upon acceptance of this offer, your appointment will require further and final administrative approval.

As an Adjunct [faculty title], your responsibilities and  expectations for the appointment will include: [insert essential appointment functions].

3. Current CV

4. A current cleared Criminal Background Check (CBC) (for reappointments, a new CBC is required if there has been a break in service of more than 12 months).

5. A signed Degree Verification Form (for reappointments, a new degree verification is required if the individual has earned a new terminal degree).
