Two Experienced Educators Earn Presidential Teaching Excellence Awards

The recognition carries a prestigious career-long title highlighting professorial expertise.

Two Texas A&M University faculty members were honored with the 2023 Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence (PPTE) Award, which is bestowed on top tier educators at Texas A&M University. PPTE recipients exhibit excellence and devotion to the education of their students.

The 2023 recipients of the Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence are:

  • Catharina Laporte, Department of Anthropology, College of Arts & Sciences

  • Bala Shetty, Department of Information and Operations Management, Mays Business School

At the time of nomination, candidates must have at least five years of full-time service to Texas A&M University and should have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, including college-level teaching awards. Presidential Professors receive a certificate, a commemorative medallion and a monetary award in the amount of $25,000. Each will carry the designation of “Presidential Professor for Teaching Excellence” for the remainder of their careers.
